The Omni 396 is available with a range of memory configurations, from 128 Kb to 896 Kb, with 256 Kb being the standard model. This amount of memory allows the addition of new applications without the necessity to upgrade to a different system.
With three ports, the VeriFone Omni 396 can connect to a range of peripherals, such as PIN pads, printers, bar code wands, check readers, or smart card readers, and still connect to an ECR or a PC.
The Omni 396’s 2400 baud modem, with its choice of synchronous or asynchronous protocols, allows improved transaction time, with faster customer service and lower communications cost. In addition, the VeriFone Omni 396 can accept partial or full downloads, remotely or onsite, and perform application upgrades from a PC or from another terminal. The Flash EPROM permits electronic operating system upgrades, thus allowing firmware changes instead of hardware replacement.
